Do I need to plan ahead, or can I just show up to the park and scratch off the card?
It’s generally a good idea to scratch off the card a few days in advance. Some parks may require a timed-entry ticket, reservation, or have seasonal road closures. This gives you time to check park conditions and ensure everything’s good to go.
That said, many park experiences like scenic drives, overlooks, visitor centers, and short walks can still be enjoyed with less advance planning. The deck is built to support both spontaneous trips and well-planned park vacations, so you can explore however you like.
